INTRODUCTION
In accordance with its strategy of establishing new TIMD Clubs on the national territory, the
Ivorian Federation of Tong-Il Moo-Do (FITMD) in the framework of its public relations
participated in the First University Martial Arts Festival named FAMU which was held on
Saturday 11 March 2017 at the University FELIX HOUPHOUET BOIGNY located in Abidjan
/ Cocody.
This activity is part of a tripartite collaboration between: (i) the Ivorian Federation of Tong-Il
Moo-Do, (ii) CARP Côte d’Ivoire and (iii) the leaders of the Martial Arts Student Associations
Installed on the University of Cocody.
Objectives of the Festival:
This participation in the Festival had two objectives: (i) To promote the practice of the Tong-Il
Moo-Do on the university campus, (ii) Facilitate the integration of CARP Côte d’Ivoire with
the university structures.
Specifically, they were:
– Introduce the Tong-Il Moo-Do to the university public and municipal authorities,
– To open a new TIMD club on campus,
– Create a tripartite collaboration framework between TIMD, CARP, UPF and all the disciplines
represented on the university campus in order to promote universal values in our various sectors
of activity.
Conduct of the ceremony:
Two (2) activities marked the Festival:
1. Presentation of the Tong-Il Moo-Do,
2. Implementation of the tripartite collaboration framework in TIMD, CARP and the existing
Disciplines on campus.
1.1. Presentation of the Tong-Il Moo-Do
Exceptionally, several martial arts federations have joined forces to organize the first edition of
the Festival of Martial Arts University on the esplanade of the forum of the University of
Cocody Abidjan.
The ceremony began with the welcome of the
Godfather M. N’GOUAN Mathias Mayors of
the town of Cocody accompanied by illustrious
guests including Madame Guidy WANDJA
Josephine First woman aggragate Professor of
Applied Mathematics in Africa. On this
exceptional day, the University Forum hosted
seven (7) Various Disciplines for a day
dedicated to the practice of martial arts and all combat sports.
After the sponsor’s speech, the clubs present offered demonstrations. Each Discipline spent a
quarter of an hour telling the origins of its sport and exposed the different activities of its club.
Speaking in turn, the instructor. KHASSY Georges (President of the Ivorian Federation of
Tong-Il Moo-Do) made the history of the TIMD in Côte d’Ivoire and highlighted the
achievements of the discipline since its implantation in Côte d’Ivoire following a 21-day
international seminar held in 2002 in Côte d’Ivoire / Grand Bassam on the initiative of Moriba
KONE and Susane KONE. He closed his remarks by saying that TIMD is a mixed sport, a
maintenance hygiene of the physical and mental form with no primary objective of defeating,
injuring or hurting.
2.1. Implementation of the tripartite collaboration framework between TIMD, CARP
and the existing Disciplines on campus.
A framework for collaboration between
TIMD, CARP Côte d’Ivoire and all the
Martial Arts disciplines present at the
University of Cocody has been set up to
promote the integration of CARP into
the academic community. Working
meetings and training seminar on
character education between all parties
will continue in order to prepare all
those responsible for the academicdisciplines to more responsibilities in the teaching of martial arts based on character education
as well as true family values.
Conclusion:
FTIMD’s participation has met its objectives. It enabled the authorities and the general public
to discover the discipline and the values it defends through teaching its philosophy and
techniques.
At the end of the ceremony, N’GOUAN Mathias, Mayor of the Cocody Commune, thanked all
the disciplines present and decided to accompany all participating clubs in the provision of
sports equipment for the development of the arts Martial arts on the University Campus. He
also promised to involve his, under the leadership of his commune, in the forthcoming
Francophone games to be held next July in Côte d ‘Ivoire. A favorable opinion was given for
the opening of a TIMD club at the University “FELIX HOUPHOUET BOIGNY” Abidjan /
Cocody which will be led by the instructor LEGER DJEYA President Permanent National
Commission in charge of TIMD School and University.
